Augie T. headlines annual Mother’s Day Show at Aloha Theatre
Hawaii’s favorite funnyman Augie T. will headline the laughs at his 10th annual Mother’s Day Weekend Show Friday at 8 p.m. at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu.
Sharing the stage with Augie, will be Big Island songster and 2014 five-time Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Mark Yamanaka.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $30 for VIP reserved seating. Tickets can be purchased at Kona Wine Market, Soundwave Music, Kiernan Music and online at alohatheatre.com.

Sheraton Kona celebrates Mother’s Day weekend with Anuhea
Island music star Anuhea will serenade mothers and families with hits from her old album and upcoming album to be released this summer on Saturday at Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay.
The concert will take place from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on the Hawaii Lawn. Cover will be $10 for the general public, $5 for keiki younger than 12 and free for children younger than 3. Lawn chairs are welcome, however, coolers are prohibited. Beverage and bar snacks will be available for purchase. Tickets are available at the door.

Youth Chorus offers Mother’s Day Spring Concert
The Kona Choral Society Youth Chorus under the direction of interim music director, Bernaldo Evangelista, will be presenting their Mother’s Day Spring Concert at 3 p.m. Saturday at the West Hawaii Civil Center in Kailua-Kona.
The concert will be held at the center’s open pavilion. The concert is free to the public but a calabash bowl will be available for donations.
The Kona Choral Society Youth Chorus is comprised of children in grades 3 to 12 that meet every Thursday for rehearsals at Kealakehe Intermediate School.

KDEN to hold auditions for ‘The King and I’
Kilauea Drama and Entertainment Network announces auditions for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The King and I.”
Auditions will be held on May 18 and 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Kilauea Theatre within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Performances begin July 10 to 26 with shows slated at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and matinees at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays.
The show will be directed by Suzi Bond, with musical direction by Kait Wilson and choreography by Carmen Richardson. Pedro Kaawaloa will conduct the orchestra. Jonathan Sudler is designing the set and costume construction will be lead by Helie Rock.
The story of “The King and I” is based on the 1944 novel “Anna and the King of Siam” by Margaret Landon. English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, Thailand, having been summoned by the king to serve as tutor to his children and wives. The king is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the west, and he seeks Anna’s assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the king grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story.
Kilauea Drama and Entertainment Network’s summer musical is a family affair with parts available for all ages. Principal parts are available for three women, two men, and two boys. There are featured roles for two men and a singing-dancing ensemble consisting of royal dancers, wives, children, priests and Amazons. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing with accompaniment and dance. Dress comfortably to be able to move freely on the stage. There will be some line readings for those interested in the lead roles.
